MS OutLook 2010: Change Auto and Manual Archive to function on Sent/Received Date

By default, MS Outlook 2010 archiving feature is based on the modified date of an item in outlook.

It is possible that the modified date is different from the Sent/Received date. If you are planning on Archiving your email based on Sent/Received date, then you need to apply the following registry modification to make the change.

Key for Outlook 2010:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook\Preferences

Value name: ArchiveIgnoreLastModifiedTime
Value type: REG_DWORD
Value: 1

There are 2 ways to apply the above modification to registry:

1. Copy and Paste the following code into Notepad and save the file as “Outlook2010.reg

Note: When you save the file in notepad, make sure that [Save as type:] is set to “All Files (*.*)” in the drop list

Once you save the file. Exit NotePad, and then double click on “Outlokk2010.reg” file that you just create, then click YES or OK to add the key to your windows registry file.

2. Open Regedit and add the following key manually to your registry:

Key for Outlook 2010:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook\Preferences

Value name: ArchiveIgnoreLastModifiedTime
Value type: REG_DWORD
Value: 1
